Mini Mills For Your Home – convenient and practical

Mini mills do not need a lot of space, if you like, they can be placed even in apartments, which is probably what many of our customers do. It could also be carried in the car, on trips. It is practical and compact, despite the presence of millstones of solid stone, it weighs only 15 kg.

Many people have a problem with having the right type of flour for different types of baking. In addition, if you want to choose a technique for a cafe or restaurant, there is also quite a lot of information on how to choose the right device, taking into account your preferences on specialized sites.

There are two types of home mills

Each home mill model comes in two types. The first is for cereals, and the second is for oilseeds (for example, for the production of Urbech). These types of mills differ in the morphological features of the millstones, adapted to these productions, and are made individually.

The mechanical grain mill grinders differ from the manual mill grinders by a factor of 2-2.5. It is much easier to rotate, thanks to the built-in transmission links. It can produce 200-235 grams of flour per minute.

The outer casing is made of acacia, ash, and oak. They are not glued, have no mechanical treatments, metal bonded. The diameter of the millstones is 21 cm. The mechanical mill weighs 54 kg.

We all know the world-famous dish – waffles. People of all countries and all ages love them. We have long forgotten when this dessert first appeared and who invented it. But the appearance of the first waffle maker was a real boom. All children dreamed of having their mother make waffles with a sweet filling. Looking back at this amazing and simple invention of the American Cornelius Swartout, it is impossible not to appreciate his work.

At all times people were engaged in baking and used a variety of machines to grind grain. Over the years, they have improved and nowadays have the most comfortable design for full and fast grinding of any type of grain.

Principle Of A Mechanical Flour Mill

The mechanical mill works as follows: grain is poured into the hopper. Rotate the handle. Then the ready mixture is poured out of the trunk. In this model, the adjustment of the millstones lifting is changed. Turning the screw to the right or left side raises or lowers the grindstone. This affects the grinding and fraction of the mixture from under the millstones.

A device is built into this grain mill, which regulates the amount of grain-fed.

The electric mill, which is shown in the photo, is made of acacia, ash, and oak. The wood species is not glued, without chemical treatments, fastened together by metal elements. The reeds reach a diameter of 30 cm.

Such a mill can produce 30 kg of grain per hour. At the mill, it is possible to grind any kind of grain.

Working principle of the electric mill.

This mill has an adjustment and limitations on the height of the millstones. This mechanism allows you to produce an unlimited amount of grain. Once you adjust the millstones, you can not touch them anymore, but you can only change the fraction of grinding of the outgoing mixture.

How To Choose A Home Mill? Looking at the design

To make the right choice based on personal preferences and needs, it is necessary to understand the design and purpose of the main elements of the mill. It is important to have an understanding of the materials, as well as the power of electric models.

Design features to which you should pay special attention when choosing a device:

1. Reeds

The most durable and wear-resistant option is stone grindstones made of noble corundum. The natural material enhances the combination of ceramic and coke. Alternatives: metal, basalt or granite with good strength and water repellent properties.

2. Material

Pay attention to the body. Modern household mills can have 2 types of “frame”:

  • wooden: beech, linden or cedar (the body is made of wood treated with special oils, which prolong the life of the grain mill and increase durability);
  • plastic (more affordable).

  1. Performance.

You can choose a household mill with manual control, but electric ones will please you with higher performance indicators (from 90 to 200 g/minute).

For example, with a 360W/230V power device, the mill will produce 125 grams of ready flour in a minute of work. More powerful professional models can grind up to 2 kg per minute.

For home use, a 360W/230V mill will be sufficient. For supermarkets and mini bakeries, devices with higher output parameters – 600 W/230 V – are needed.

How To Choose A Grain Grinder For Flour By Type?

Most often the choice of device depends on what is ground into flour. A total of 3 types of mills can be distinguished:

  • manual;
  • mains-powered;
  • commercial with a complex and powerful mechanism.

Choosing a manual model, it is worth bearing in mind that it is not suitable for grinding oil-bearing crops and spices.

Electric devices are chosen according to their purpose:

  • for flour.
  • for spices;

The third category of commercial devices includes powerful devices adapted for different starting options, including manual.

Manufacturers also offer electro millers:

  • universal wheat grinder;
  • Specialized (produces only grain flour from non-oil-bearing crops).

Some advanced models are equipped with backlighting.

How To Choose A Home Mill For Grinding?

Almost any mill model allows you to adjust the degree of grinding:

  • coarse;
  • medium;
  • fine

The degree of grinding, in this case, is measured by the sieved sample set by the German standard DIN 10765. According to the grade of the grains, the grinding is either coarse (granular) or finer, and velvety.

The technical specifications of the devices is also specified milling capacity. This indicator allows you to compare the number of grains milled on the coarse and fine settings.

How To Choose A Home Mill Or Different Uses

If you want to grind oil-bearing grains or nuts, it is recommended to choose a grain grinder machine with metal rollers instead of stone grinders. The stone elements will quickly become clogged, and the grinding process becomes ineffective.

Combination mills are also suitable for such tasks, allowing to the preparation both flour and flakes. If you need to perform two functions simultaneously (grinding and flaking of grain), we recommend choosing elite twin-motor models KoMo. With all the multifunctionality, such devices are compact in size.

Important: The rule is the same for all! It is necessary to occasionally clean the grinding chamber to remove grinding granules and protect the flour from moldiness. To clean the millstones or rollers of flour plaque, you should periodically pass the grain through a coarse setting. A corn grinder machine is ideal. Coarse settings provoke high vibrations, which help to free the chamber from grinding residues.

So if you want to choose a mill for your preferences, pay attention first of all to the quality of the material and the specialization of the mill itself, so you can choose the one that best suits your needs.
