  4. Replace “I can’t” with “I can”.
  5. Don’t wait for perfection; 50% improvement is fine for now!
  6. Correct the issues and problems as soon as they are discovered.
  7. Don’t hesitate to ask, if you are not clear about something.
  8. Make decisions based on stats and not on opinions.
  9. Remember that improvements are never made in the conference room; so 20% on discussions and 80% on practical work!

How did Kaizen originate?

Like we said before, the Kaizen philosophy originated in Japan. It was first meant to be a way of life, not necessarily a framework for business-minded people. But, think about it— when you have a philosophy as compelling as this one, it’s easy to translate it into any setting. Even if all of you reading weren’t aspiring entrepreneurs, this mindset could likely help you in other areas of life.

The Kaizen philosophy was adapted to the business setting because it advertises (ha!) a disciplined, humble, can-do attitude to ingrain into every venture, big or small.

Does it actually work?

As of now, we can’t say for certain that if you adopt the Kaizen mentality and its principles, you will gain success overnight. In fact, there are probably very few ways anyone could guarantee any entrepreneur success overnight! But think—that’s exactly what the philosophy entails. It entails patience and seeing a payoff from genuine, conscious hard work.

There are no direct studies that mention success based on a conscious effort to follow Kaizen guidelines, but there is research that essentially proves it to be true. After all, I’m sure we’re familiar with the various studies done on CEOs. Usually, successful people share common traits.

Sara Blakely – CEO/Founder of Spandex

Sara Blakely didn’t become a self-made billionaire overnight. She paved the way for female representation and success in business, and while doing so embodied Kaizen principles. She made her decisions about Spandex based on stats and stats alone while other people were trying to tell her what she could and couldn’t do. Ignoring the critics, she rose to where she is today.
